Finding creativity in the cracks of everyday life
Finding creativity in the cracks of everyday life
What I'm Up To... (Besides Wondering Who Keeps Making All These Dishes) If you've ever wondered what I do all day... honestly, so do I sometimes.
Somewhere between taking care of my family, attempting to keep the house from looking like a tornado stopped by for coffee, answering emails, running Dip Into Art, LLC, and handling all the glamorous adulting responsibilities, I somehow find time to create. And that's exactly where my heart is happiest.
I paint.
I crochet.
I craft.
I dream up new workshops, sketch future paintings, design DIY art kits, and occasionally convince myself that this is the day I'll finally organize my studio.
Right now, though? It's crochet time before I start dinner.
Now, crochet is dangerous. Much like painting, it has this magical ability to pull me into another world. I'll tell myself, "Just one more row," and the next thing I know I've stitched hundreds of stitches, my tea is cold, and two hours have mysteriously disappeared. So yes... I literally set a timer.
Not because I'm done crocheting. Because apparently my family expects dinner... EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
And while we're at it... Who keeps making all these dirty dishes? I swear I just washed them.
Why does the laundry multiply when no one is looking?
Why is there always one thing I forgot to take out of the freezer?
These are the mysteries of motherhood that science has yet to explain.
Then there's the content creation side of running a creative business. I make videos of paintings coming together, crochet projects in progress, behind-the-scenes moments, and little snippets of everyday creativity... ...that usually never make it to my channel.
Apparently recording videos and editing videos are two completely different hobbies. My camera roll is thriving. My followers? What followers? Buried in algorithm and still patiently waiting.
I'm convinced I have enough unedited footage to keep my social media going until 2032, if I ever actually sat down long enough to edit it.
Some days I truly think I need to clone myself.
One Paula to paint. One Paula to crochet.
One Paula to answer emails.
One Paula to edit videos.
One Paula to cook dinner.
One Paula to tackle the laundry monster.
One Paula to clean the studio.
And maybe one extra Paula whose only job is reminding the other Paulas where they put their coffee.
Until science catches up with my cloning request, I'll keep doing what I always do…squeezing creativity into the spaces between everyday life. Because even in the middle of the beautiful chaos, creating fills my cup.
Whether it's a brush in my hand, yarn on my hook, or dreaming up the next class for Dip Into Art, LLC I wouldn't trade this wonderfully creative, wonderfully messy life for anything.
Now if you'll excuse me... my timer just went off. Apparently, it's time to stop crocheting and feed the people.
xoxo Paula R.
